Description

The College of Business(COB) invites applications for anAcademic Advisor IIto join their team. This position will serve as a professional advisor for assigned advisees, with regular walk-in availability for all undergraduate students in the College of Business

Examples of Duties

  • Close collaboration with the advising coordinator and directors of internships and career readiness in order to be well versed in curriculum requirements, career paths and internship opportunities for various business majors.
  • Core course registration of incoming first year students.
  • Assist with re-recruitment/retention efforts.
  • Foster relationships with advisees leading to enriched undergraduate experiences.
  • Develop working knowledge of advising technologies to review student records, document appointments and track student progress.
  • Make effective referrals to campus services and resources.
  • Lead students in assessing options and making sounds decisions to support their academic success.

Qualifications


  • Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to establish and maintain strong working relationships with students, staff, faculty and administration.
  • Excellent communication skills, including verbal, written and listening and feedback skills.
  • Knowledge in the use of computer software programs, including MS Word, MS Excel and MS Outlook and ability to learn related software applications.
  • Ability to listen and demonstrate patience and provide critical, accurate, consistent, and timely information.
  • Ability to work with diverse groups of individuals and create and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to work independently while providing attention to detail and accurate record keeping.
  • Ability to adapt to changing work demands.
  • Ability to gather, evaluate and report data.
  • Ability to manage occasionally stressful or difficult situations while maintaining composure.
  • Ability to evaluate various student transcripts.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with academic advising.
  • Experience working in a higher education setting.

Supplemental Information

Compensation Title: Academic Advisor II

Union: FOCUS-MFPE

Work Schedule:Full-time, 1.0 FTE (40 Hours a week), Monday through Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, 12 months/year.

Probationary Period:Six (6) months minimum
